Run Delia!
Do you remember how shyly you are
when we looked into each other’s eyes.
It was our apple time. The time of escapes.
And we did an extraordinary one,
along the sea, at night,
when the heart beat accompanied its tremors.
The sand shone in the moonlight,
and the wave shone. Everything was close to us,
and all accompanied that escape
that we did inexperienced. But do you remember?
Or you are closed into oblivion
wanted by life.
And yet it was you, that evening, on the sea,
to draw a heart
lost who knows where and I with you.
I can’t help but relive
the slow and melodious rhythm of a guitar; of a song
that we wanted as a melody
of a love story. Run Delia!
You still run as you did
a little crazy on the beat of the wave
that July evening. Run! The memories
they will be close to you and reborn
you will sing loudly and with bare arms
at the pace of our serenade.
(From ten love poems, unpublished)

Corri Delia!
Ti ricordi con quanta timidezza
ci guardavamo negli occhi.
e l’onda luccicava. Tutto ci era vicino,
e tutto accompagnava quella fuga
che facemmo inesperti. Ma tu ricordi?
O sei chiusa nell’oblio
Corri Delia!
Ancora corri come lo facesti
un po’ pazza sul battito dell’onda
quella sera di luglio. Corri! Le memorie
ti saranno vicine e tu rinata
canterai a squarcia gola e a braccia nude
al ritmo della nostra serenata.

THE SOLITUDE OF THE SEA
I am alone and the winter strikes me
with its cold and stormy winds.
I raise the waves to the highest sky
and I take them to the road to peek
Christmas decorations. Sometimes
some lovers come to visit me: sitting on the skate,
chained, between one kiss and another, they look farther up to the horizon.
They keep me company. Loneliness
allows me to think about the world, about my wandering,
makes me think to the summer days,
to the many bodies immersed in me,
to the beauty of young girls
that smoothed my body. Now I remember;
I live in recalling those moments,
I feel sad if the cry of a mother and her railing
against the undertow, and the current,
who took away a son in the bloom,
comes back to me, lost in my depths.
But if I think about it
so many mortals have sunk
in my cavities. Now I am alone;
I raise my arms to the sky and butter me
for the strength of a wind that in winter
assails me with its lashes. If you meet me
in these shady and cloudy times,
when my breath becomes thicker,
you’ll see me in full anguish. I took out
logs, debris, chops and planks,
purging everything the river brings
and I fill the beach with vestiges;
my waters become muddy;
I find peace only if the moon
shatters his hair in so many scales.
Then I rest. You’ll see me
when my cheeks are orange and I paint the sky
of fruitful embraces which come out from within
to display my uneasy being shut up by the rocks
without being able to escape beyond the banks.
Without being able to understand,- and I torment myself-
what exists outside; and what is unknown to me.

LA SOLITUDINE DEL MARE
Sono solo e l’inverno mi percuote
coi suoi venti freddi e burrascosi.
Innalzo le onde fino al sommo cielo
e le porto alla strada per sbirciare
gli addobbi di Natale. Ogni tanto
ai tanti corpi immersi dentro me,
alle grazie di giovani fanciulle
che mi lisciavano il corpo. Ora ricordo;
nelle mie cavità. Ora son solo;
mi vedi in piena angoscia. Tiro fuori
tronchi, detriti, ciocchi e tavoloni,
e riempio la spiaggia di vestigia;
si fanno le mie acque intorbidite;
trovo la pace solo se la luna
frantuma le sue chiome in tante scaglie.
Allora mi riposo. Puoi vedermi
l’inquieto stare chiuso dagli scogli
senza poter sfuggire oltre le sponde.
Senza poter capire, e mi tormento,
quello che fuori esiste; e che mi è ignoto.

We discovered
We discovered the sky, the sea and the smile.
We said to the wind: “Run at breakneck speed,
don’t arrest yourself, run to mess the hair
of the young girls that play with time.
Bring on yourself
the messages of hope for those
who live the night; who have not the summer of life.
Run run, wild wind, run at breakneck speed
up to meet the face of her
who asked at the time to turn into a camellia.
Be light, bring her the colour of blood
of confused poppy among the gold of the ears;
the footprints of its white feet
on the ford of rubies.
Bring the feel of a tired hand,
bring her the flower you ripped off the edge
in that spring. I’d love to be with you
to touch her cheeks with my breath;
I’d love to be on your back and run away,
at the end of the world
and shake my hands
to what is unknown to me;
to the one who spread
banks of solitude
on this narrow plane.
(From I dintorni della solitudine, Guido Miano, 2019)

SCOPRIMMO
Portati addosso
messaggi di speranza per coloro
che vivono la notte; che non hanno
l’estate della vita. Corri, corri,
vento selvaggio, corri a perdifiato
in quella primavera. Vorrei tanto
a quello che mi è ignoto;
a colei che diffuse
banchi di solitudine
su questo stretto piano.
